Not entirely sure what they are made of...

Last night, Lara, Charles and I watched Super Size Me, the filmed experiment of a guy who goes on a 30-day McDonald's binge where he eats three square meals a day at the fast-food store. Needless to say you shouldn't do that. But the DVD has some additional features, including an experiment called The Smoking Fries. In this experiment, he takes a bunch of McD burgers, a corner store burger and home made fries, and McD's fries. He places each item in a glass jar on his desk and waits to see what will happen (this is all happening at room temperature). Well, as you can imagine, the food starts getting really moldy and gross, smells terrible... except for the McD fries. After 10 weeks (10 WEEKS!) on the counter in a glass jar they had not decompose and did not have the slightest trace of fuzzy growth on them. Food is supposed to go bad after a while, so what the hell do they put in their fries?

Hi. Not sure how I came upon your blog, but I've been reading for awhile.
Re: Supersize Me... my 14 year old and I watched it together, and currently have 4 glass jars full of molding food on our kitchen countertop. (He's redoing the experiement for his grade 9 science fair project.) Imagine our surprise to find the McDonald's fries moldier than the homemade ones. We did not expect that to happen at all.
    Just thought I'd mention it.
Love your blog by the way.

Very interesting about the experiment, thanks for sharing these results. In many recent "documentaries," I have found that some of the stories should be taken with a grain of salt.
